Pre-owned OVNIs : The beginning of a new adventure
A yacht’s story doesn’t end when it leaves the shipyard. It continues through the miles sailed, the stopovers, the voyages and the encounters.
At Alubat, we remain by your side long after your boat has been launched. Whether it’s spare parts, technical advice, repairs or modifications, we’re with you every step of the way on your adventure.
This close relationship also means we have in-depth knowledge of the boats coming onto the second-hand market.
- If you’re thinking of selling your boat, you can call on our expertise to guide you through this new stage.
- If you’re looking for a second-hand OVNI or Cigale, our knowledge of the fleet is an invaluable source of information to help you make the right choice.
Expertise that goes beyond
a simple advert
Buying a pre-owned sailing yacht is a major undertaking. Beyond the price, the year of build or the number of engine hours, it’s essential to ensure that the boat truly matches your intended sailing plans.
An OVNI intended for a few weeks’ sailing a year along the coast will not necessarily have the same equipment or the same level of preparation as a boat intended to sail round the world over the course of several years.
That is why our support begins well before you visit the boat.
Thanks to our knowledge of the models, their development and their history, we can advise you, as a prospective owner, in your search and help you identify the boats best suited to your plans.
Model, generation, configuration, equipment, layout: these are all factors that can make the difference between a boat that is immediately suited to your plans and one that will require significant modifications.
Second-hand boats
that already have a history
Buying a pre-owned OVNI also means benefiting from the experience of a boat that has already been sailed.
Some have crossed the oceans, others have mainly sailed on France’s Mediterranean or Atlantic coasts; some have been extensively customised by their owners, whilst others have retained a setup close to the original.
This history is an integral part of the boat and warrants being taken into account.
The work carried out, the equipment added or replaced, the maintenance undertaken and the boat’s previous sailing history are all factors that help you better understand the boat you are considering buying.
Our close relationship with the owners means that, in some cases, we are able to trace a boat’s history and, where information is available, provide you with further insight before your purchase.
Two ways we can support you with selling
Looking to sell your aluminium monohull, OVNI or Cigale?
Several options are available to you:
01
DIRECT SALE
We can directly handle the sale of the boat you entrust to us. We will then take care of presenting the boat, promoting it to potential buyers and managing the transaction.
02
INTERmédiary
We can also act as an intermediary between you and a prospective buyer. The shipyard will facilitate contact and assist you with the various administrative procedures involved in the sale.
This flexibility allows you to choose the level of support that suits you best.
Our aim :
To support you at every stage so that the sale of your boat proceeds smoothly and stress-free.
Acheter un bateau,
is also about preparing for an adventure
Choosing a pre-owned OVNI is ultimately not just about selecting the length, the year of manufacture or the level of equipment.
It means choosing a boat with a history, a layout and potential that must fit with a new story yet to be written.
That is why our role is not limited to simply offering boats for sale.
We also want to guide you through your decision-making process, draw your attention to the key points to check, and help you find the yacht that best suits your desires and your boating plans.
Choosing the right pre-owned OVNI
Not all OVNIs are alike !
Over the years, models have evolved, construction techniques have been refined and the standard equipment offered has changed.
One aspect in particular deserves special attention: insulation.
Today, all new-generation OVNI boats come with insulation as standard. However, this was not necessarily the case with previous generations.
If you’re planning to sail in cold, high-latitude regions or simply to live on board for long periods, insulation is a key factor in choosing your boat.
It’s important to check carefully the specifications of the boat you are considering, its year of construction and any insulation work carried out during its lifetime.
This example illustrates the importance of choosing a second-hand boat based on your sailing plans, and not solely on its model or price.
Getting a survey
before buying
Even when you are familiar with a particular make or model, buying a second-hand sailing boat remains a major decision.
We therefore recommend that prospective buyers arrange for an independent survey to be carried out before signing the contract of sale, ideally by a surveyor with genuine knowledge of aluminium construction.
The survey will provide an external, professional assessment of the boat’s overall condition, its structure, its equipment and any work that may be required. It will therefore enable you to make an informed purchase and, if necessary, to prioritise any work based on your future sailing plans.
At ALUBAT, we are naturally able to share our knowledge of the models and their construction. Nevertheless, this independent survey remains an essential step: it helps to safeguard the transaction for both the buyer and the seller and promotes a fully transparent sale.
Influence
Visibility across all the Boats
Group platforms
If you’d like to entrust us with the sale of your boat, we also have a presence across all of the Boats Group platforms, bringing a visibility that enables us to showcase listings to a wide audience both in France and internationally.
Putting a blue water yacht up for sale requires reaching buyers well beyond your usual cruising grounds.
This international dimension is particularly relevant for OVNI and CIGALE yachts, whose owners and prospective buyers may be based in different countries and have very varied sailing plans.
